Electromagnetic Field Quantization & Applications to the Casimir Effect

چکیده
The quantization of the electromagnetic field is demonstrated through a two-pronged approach. The classical harmonic oscillator is discussed in depth, and then its quantization is further discussed. Additionally, the classical electromagnetic field Hamiltonian is derived and analogized to the classical harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian at several points. Quantization of the electromagnetic field and its Hamiltonian are then performed, leading to an application of the free electromagnetic field energy spectrum to the analysis of the Casimir effect. This too is performed through two routes, which are by analyzing the energy gradient and by analyzing the radiation pressure of the electromagnetic field subject to certain boundary conditions; these are qualitatively different but quantitatively converge to give the same desired result.

Casimir effects of nano objects in fluctuating scalar and electromagnetic fields: Thermodynamic investigating
Casimir entropy is an important aspect of casimir effect and at the nanoscale is visible. In this paper, we employ the path integral method to obtain a general relation for casimir entropy and internal energy of arbitrary shaped objects in the presence of two, three and four dimension scalar fields and the electromagnetic field. For this purpose, using Lagrangian and based on a perturb...

Abstract. The thermal Casimir effect in ideal metal rectangular boxes is considered using the method of zeta functional regularization. The renormalization procedure is suggested which provides the finite expression for the Casimir free energy in any restricted quantization volume. This expression satisfies the classical limit at high temperature and leads to zero thermal Casimir force for syst...

The influence of an external constant uniform magnetic field on the Casimir energy density of a Dirac field under antiperiodic (and periodic) boundary condition is computed by applying Schwinger’s proper time method. The result thus obtained shows that in principle, under suitable conditions, the magnetic field can enhance the fermionic Casimir energy density. Introduction The Casimir effect [1...
متن کاملGeometry Dependence of Casimir Forces beyond the Proximity Approximation
Casimir interactions between macroscopic objects are strongly influenced by their geometrical features as shape and orientation as well as by their material properties. The effect of geometry is commonly obtained from the proximity approximation (PA). Here we present a path integral quantization for the electromagnetic field in the presence of deformed metallic surfaces. From the resulting effe...
